Cityographer Map Generation Update

A few days ago I posted an update to the Cityographer Kickstarter page with a bunch of new screenshots.  These show off most of the step-by-step process to create a random city.  There will also be a button that lets you create a city instantly (just one screen of setup info–population, tech level, etc.) and it will create the whole city in one step.

However, I envision in many cases people will want to spell out that there is a harbor to one side or a city wall of a certain size.  Plus it is nice to tweak the map between each step.  Maybe a road network is mostly good, except for 2-3 streets.  The step-by step process lets you edit the map at any point.  So you can change those 2-3 streets and then move on to the random building placement dialog.

There are still a bunch of fixes and additions to the city map generation part of the program, but Cityographer is more than just that. I’ll be turning my attention to the random data generation aspect of the city generator in the next couple of weeks.  This functionality will generate who lives in a house, what is the price list of the general store, how much a room at an inn costs, etc.

  1. Hey, this is a great project and I love checking for all your new updates, but so far I haven’t seen you mention the release date. This is a program that could change my life as a DM and I don’t know how long I have to wait for it! Anyway, thanks for the update and keep up the good work!

  2. I want to say it will be ready this month, but I better say by the end of the year. Hopefully I’ll have some sort of sample/demo version ready by the end of the month.
