Worldographer Updated!

Yesterday a new version (1.010) of Worldographer was posted. Worldographer is the new rewrite of Hexographer.  It moves the program to a more modern graphics library, allows for multiple map levels of more detail, has an entire new icon set (in addition to the previous icons), and has many other improvements.  To get the new version go tot he Worldographer website’s download page, download, and re-install. Here is what is fixed/new:

  • Fixed: Import a Hexographer map as a non-world level map–labels disappear
  • Fixed: While placing terrain in some circumstances adjacent terrain becomes dark
  • Fixed: Map key scale appears in wrong place when key is one column
  • Fixed: Note dialog can be too large for some smaller screens
  • Fixed: Configure terrain won’t add terrain with no image
  • Fixed: Trace overlay width setting not loaded properly
  • Import a map into an existing map
  • Export a portion of the map

The last two items are new features. Thanks to Worldographer’s better ability to handle very large maps, several people asked to import multiple separate Hexographer maps into one Worldographer map.  The feature is new so there may be some rough edges, but basically:

  1. Import your first map using the File menu’s Import Hexographer 1 map.  Ideally start with the upper left most Hexographer 1 map.
  2. Expand the number of hexes by more than enough for the at least the next map.  (If it is to the right, and has 80-ish hexes, add 90 hexes to the right.) Expand the height if needed as well.
  3. Go to the View Options drawer to turn on hex numbers for the next step.  Make a note of the Hex number where you’ll want the upper left corner of the new map.
  4. Use the new File menu option to import a Hexographer 1 map into the current map.  Give it the upper left hex number where the first hex in the next map should appear.
  5. The map should appear when you placed it.
  6. Repeat as needed.

Finally, the last feature mentioned above is to export a portion of the map (instead of the entire map).  To do so as either a PDF or image, go to the Edit menu and choose “Select” then click and drag on the map to create a rectangular area.  Then go to File and select Export Image or Export to PDF.  The export will be limited to the selected area.
