After The Total Party Kill Sidequest Deck Sample

We’re now ready & able to share more cards from our Kickstarter to create more Sidequest Decks with you!

What are Sidequest Decks? Each card of each deck has a map on one side and a mini-adventure outline on the other side. The outline starts with a short description for the GM. (Skim these to find an adventure that fits the circumstances.) Choose between a couple of story hooks to get the adventure started (although for this TPK deck, the hooks are dropped because they all start with the TPK). Next several encounter ideas move the adventure along. Finally each card wraps up with one or two follow-up adventure ideas.

As you probably can tell, the concept of this particular deck is what to do if the party has all been killed along the way. One way to handle a TPK is to simply roll up new characters (or relatives–near duplicates if you want to be quick) and start over or find an excuse for them to continue roughly where the prior characters left off.

But if you’re playing a fantasy or science fiction game, there are many other options.  This deck will have over 50 ideas!  Perhaps their souls will be chosen by a god to enter a contest for new champions of that god.  Or maybe they find themselves in a version of limbo and the PCs must look for clues to return. Or a necromancer has raised them as zombies, but the ritual went wrong for some reason and they have a chance to return to true life. Perhaps they find themselves in a version of Hell and have a chance to find a way out. These are just a few of the possibilities we’ve developed.

Without further ado, here is the sample.

The other two decks we’re creating as part of this Kickstarter are:

  • Modern Crime, Spies, & Supers: Modern adventures with criminal underworld, spies, and super-hero plots.
  • Lovecraftian/Paranormal: Adventure ideas with paranormal and Lovecraft themes.
