New Giant Continent Hex-Map: Africa
As part of testing the latest release of Hexographer (now available; see this post for some details) I’ve put together a giant hex map of Africa. This represents about 2-3 hours of work in Hexographer. I wasn’t worrying about being too precise with river placement but it should serve as a good start for anyone who wants a hex map of Africa. I’m including the raw .hxm file in case you want to edit it.
I also tested out a new feature in Hexographer’s pro version: the ability to make child maps. In this latest version, going to the “Options” menu and selecting “Make Child Map” will allow you to convert the entire map or any rectangular area into a new sub map where each original hex is 4 hexes across in the new map, or 5:1, 6:1, 10:1, 12:1, 20:1, 25:1, or 30:1. As part of the process all lines, shapes and text are also moved appropriately on the map as part of this process.
Here are the files:
I’m quite curious to know how you produced this map. I’m currently in the process of working out how to produce a real world hex map and I’m struggling with the topographical/ biomes side of things
I found one online and traced over it. If you notice on the setup screen you can set it up to let you trace over an existing map. That map had some color in it that helped me with the terrain choices.
