One of the requests I've had is for a set of black and white icons that are reminiscent of the even older maps from the blue Expert rulebook, "The Savege Coast" game module, etc. They also may help for printing greyscale maps.

I've finally done the basic ones.  Attached is a zip with individual pngs, and you're free to use them for any purpose, as far as I'm concerned.  Note that you'll need the pro version of the software if you want to use them in Hexographer because you need the functionality to replace an icon.  (To do so, go to the "Options" menu and choose "Customize Hexes" then use each terrain's browse button to browse to the icon file you wish to use.)

I more than doubled the number of black and white icons.  I removed the old zip file from the prior post.  This post has a new zip.  (Edit: see below for a newer zip.) Also, here's a key/samples of the new icons.

To use them, download and unzip the zip file.  Then start a map in Hexographer's pro version and go to "Options" and "Customize Hexes".  Look for the browse button for each terrain icon you wish to replace and browse to the replacement icon file.

Here's a new version with a different sand dunes icon (called just dunes) thanks to Rob A> at the Cartographer's Guild with a small revision by me.  It looks far better than the old one, but no matter what there's somewhat issue with which is dunes and which is hills.

Note that the zip includes an extra terrain type for "snowy mountains."  You'll need to add this separately if you want to use it by going to "Options" and Choosing the "Add/Edit/Remove Custom Terrain/Features" option.
