Solo RPGs: Solo Adventurer’s Toolbox (For 5e D&D)

Adds a very simple Oracle (just Yes/Maybe/No) and many, many tables of information to 5th Edition D&D.

  • 165 page PDF.
  • #Characters: Use standard 5th edition D&D character(s).
  • Dice: full polyhedral set.
  • Key Features:  Lots and lots of tables of information. Everything from monsters of a specific Challenge Rating and environment (Ex: CR 6 City Monsters) to several tables that generate an NPC to Ways to Gain Renown.
  • Sample Character: Any standard 5th edition D&D character.
  • Oracle: Simple Yes/Maybe/No modified by likelihood
  • Quest Generation: Yes, a short chapter has several tables to generate quests, and that is augmented by tables in other chapters for generating dungeons, wilderness or urban encounters, etc.
  • Dungeon Mapping: The resource has its own system and also points to the Dungeon Master’s Guide Appendix A and the Tome of Adventure Design.
  • Monsters/Traps/Room Contents: Many tables are devoted to these.
  • Magic System: 5th edition D&D.
  • Character Growth: 5th edition D&D.

The strength of this book is in the voluminous tables that let you roll for many of the things that you’ll come across in a game session.  Whether you need to roll to pick a monster by Challenge Rating and environment or the contents of a given room or details for an oasis, this resource has it.

On the other hand, the Oracle is just a Yes/Maybe/No version, modified by circumstances.  Otherwise, the book has little for suggesting details of the Oracle’s result if it doesn’t have a related table–which it often does have.  Another drawback is the lack of any special suggestions or rules for how to address one hero fighting many foes.

Of course, the book relies of 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons for character creation, magic system, character growth, etc.
