New Random City Map Generator Fixed(?)

A couple of days ago I announced the first version of a completely new and different city map generator. This city generator is much more dynamic than my prior city map generator from a few months ago. However, at the moment the maps that the new generator creates are in a more “line art” style where buildings, walls, etc., are simple boxes or lines without textures. That will change relatively soon.
That said, some people were having issues using it on Chrome. I’ve fixed that, although the root cause was that Chrome no longer supports the most common way to display Java applets. I’ve added the new way and tested it in Chrome. I also noticed an issue in some browsers on some computer OS-es where the generator wouldn’t redraw properly when you scrolled your browser. I’ve changed the map to be popped open in a new frame to partly get around that. I’ve also added a “repaint” button just below the map in case it still doesn’t redraw properly.
Finally, I added two more things:
- A “Save” button which allows you to save the map as a PNG image. Note that I’ve seen it take up to a minute for the save dialog box to appear once you’ve clicked the button. I’ll look into that further. (Also note you should also be able to re-size the frame showing the map and “print screen” to save it.)
- I’ve added forests to the generator. You’ll see a few dark green patches around the town which represent the forests.
I’ll be continuing to improve it, but for the next several days I’ll be finishing a large update to the Coat of Arms Design Studio and finishing a few other little things.
I really like this tool! I’m going to use it when writing fantasy stories. Thank you very much for sharing.
