Remember the Book of Lairs? Want Some Hexcrawl Encounters? Raging Swan Press Can Help

Earlier today I was checking one of the RPG advertisement message boards and I saw an interesting post about Raging Swan Press’s latest release: Random Hill Encounters

Based on the sample encounter (linked from the page linked above) the product looks like a great tribute to the old AD&D1E Book of Lairs.  With all the hex-crawling people are doing, a product like this is more useful for most people than in recent years past.  It is a great way to flesh out (by including some of these pre-created one-shots, or on the spur of the moment) an area by placing a couple of these encounters in a couple of your hexes.

If they just had similar PDFs for Forests, Marsh, Mountains, Jungle, and Plains you would be pretty close to fully covered.  Oh, wait, Raging Swan Press is halfway there!  PDFs for Marsh, Woodlands, and More Woodlands already exist.  Click the product links here or look for the links to those products on the “GM Resource” page… while I love the website’s simple design (and reminds me I should simplify this site) these products links were a bit hard to find.

  1. I agree. I’m making a map in Hexographer now that I want to use for hexcrawling with Openquest. Sopmething like this for RQ/OQ/BRP would be perfect… maybe a few somethings like this.
