Cityographer Alpha Version Coming Soon!

[I just posted this to the project’s Kickstarter updates page and am posting it here in case you backed it but don’t subscribe to those updates or if you missed it and are interested.  It will be available to people who weren’t part of the Kickstarter when it hits beta, hopefully in 1-2 months.]

I’m well into ironing out the last issues as we get ready to release the alpha.  Barring a major catastrophe, we’ll release it February 21st.  (Likely that night US Eastern Time.)

The last bits of functionality for the alpha were added over a week ago and as I started ironing out some of the issues that were introduced by later features I saw I hadn’t moved text items to the new architecture… so that had to be done.  Then I realized that map items (all the buildings and trees) should also be fully part of the new architecture (instead of half & half) so that was done as well.  Now we’re into more minor issues.

When the alpha launches, you’ll still find bugs and things that aren’t done.  My hope is that it is closer to a beta phase (meaning it will do 90% of what you expect instead of 50-60%).

This extra week gives me time to resolve some of the minor issues such as placing headings on some tables, removing some un-needed buttons, and things like that.  In the process I may still find a larger issue, but hopefully I can get that taken care of before the 21st if it pops up.  And even after the beta you may notice a fairly large issue… alpha versions are partly for finding that sort of thing.  Rest assured I’ll do my best to address things quickly over the next several weeks.  (And ongoing, for that matter.)

The art continues as well.  Keith is essentially done with the first medieval art pack, the modern art pack and mostly done with the Far Future pack.  The post apocalyptic and 2nd Medieval Pack (with a focus on fantasy) are coming up next.  When I say he is essentially done I mean he’s done all the art I’ve asked for that pack but it is on me to still set up the data file to easily include it in the program and to decide if there are any last minute additions.  I think I’ll get the first 3 out within a week of the beta and the others as Keith is able to wrap them up.  (Probably 1 month later each.)

Below is a sample of several different castles he cooked up!

Thanks for you patience and it is only about a week to go!
