100 Dungeon Concepts – Mines of Khunmar

Found this very imaginative table/list and wanted to share it!  Some favorites:

9.       The dungeons are the remnants of an ancient civilization that was much more technologically advanced than the current civilization. These ancients constructed a series of shelters and access tunnels as protection against lost technological weapons of great destructive power (i.e.: fallout shelters).

15.   The dungeon is a living creature and the different chambers and tunnels are the passages of its digestive tract, arteries, lungs, etc. The creature may become conscious of invaders and seek to use its internal defenses to fight the ‘parasites’ within it.

46.   The dungeon is an underground maze into which the condemned are tossed to be devoured by monsters that wander the tunnels. Anyone successfully fighting or sneaking their way to the exit is judged to have served their sentence and are allowed to leave.

81.   The dungeon is an undersea city, sealed off from the ocean and thus habitable by air breathers. Various aquatic creatures live in and around the city and there are ancient pumps that maintain the air and pump out the sea water. In some areas, the pumps or air system have failed (making them inaccessible unless some sort of method of breathing under the water can be found)…
