Two Worthy Kickstarters

Mostly due to a lack of extra time I’ve had to largely cut down on the Kickstarters I backed.  I had made the decision that I need to make sure I’ll use them before I back them.  I’ve backed a few over the past year but not as many as in the past.

However, at the moment I’ve found two that I really think are worth your attention: Calidar “Beyond the Skies” and Lairs & Encounters.

Lairs and Encounters is ending sooner (in less than a day as I write this on Dec 27th!) so I’ll describe it first.  It is made by Autarch, the same folks behind Adventurer Conqueror King and the rescue of Dwimmermount so it is among the most likely to fulfill Kickstarter projects.  With 135 interesting lairs and new rules for hex stocking, it is right up my alley.  The project’s main page has two example lairs.  The project is funded and has already hit several stretch goals. Your pledge will help it hit more stretch goals!

Calidar “Beyond the Skies” is a continuation of Bruce Heard’s (Of the Mystara Gazetteers and Dragon’s “Voyage of the Princess Ark” fame). I backed and read his prior Calidar Kickstarter and I can definitely say if you like his prior work, you’ll love this.  If you’re not familiar with Bruce’s work, here are five reasons to back it:

  • It is a system neutral game setting with new monsters, its own planes and of course air-ships!
  • But it does have some Pathfinder stats, which are pretty easy to convert to other D&D versions and because most people are familiar with D&D, the stats can serve as a basis to convert to other games.
  • Learn about the world’s gods, foes and servants. (The new book focuses on these issues.)
  • It has great fiction about the crew of the Star Phoenix.
  • And it has cool maps of the world, its solar system, planes, and air-ships!

Calidar, like Lairs and Encounters has made its goal. And with a lot of industry experience and a fulfilled Kickstarter, there is no reason to think it won’t deliver. You can pick up the original Calidar book through the Kicsktarter as well.
