Using Hexographer/Cityographer/Dungeonographer Maps in Your Product/Website/Blog
We’ve had this question sent in a few times over the past week (twice today)… and for every person who has taken the time to ask, there are probably several people who are wondering but didn’t write to ask.
The short answer is yes you may use maps created with Hexographer, Dungeonographer, and Cityographer in your own products or website, blog, etc. (But see caveats below.) Section 7 of the license agreement covers that. (That’s the link for Hexographer’s license, but the licenses to our other programs are similar.) We ask for a credit, but don’t require it. However, when Worldographer comes out maps made with it will require a credit next to the map, in a caption, or on the edge of the map as well as a sample sent to us. (Because we want to possibly mention your product in a post or newsletter. A big priority going forward is cross-promotion.)
Caveats: This isn’t legal advice. We’re not your lawyer or even a lawyer at all. And anyone can sue anyone for any reason. A couple of key pitfalls are that if you re-create a map that someone else created, they could sue you. Or if someone feels the symbols you used are too similar to theirs, they could sue you. For that reason Hexographer does have an alternate classic icon set available, if the last bit is a concern to you.
