Third Sidequest Decks Preview & Free Bonus Stretch Goal

A few days ago we finished a preview of our third card deck of Sidequests for our latest Kickstarter.  Each card in the deck is an adventure outline on one side and the main map area on the other side.  This latest preview is for the Modern Crime, Spies, & Supers deck.

The cards that aren’t specifically super-hero related are easy to switch to super-hero plots by giving the villain(s) super-powers and playing them over-the-top. On the other hand if you like a story-line that has super-hero elements but your campaign isn’t about supers, then take out the powers–make them elite soldiers or spies with a bunch of technology and resources instead of super-powers.

Furthermore, if the project hits a $20,000 stretch goal (very possible considering Kickstarters often double or triple in the last couple of days), we’ll create a 4th new Sidequest Deck of Pulp Adventure outlines & maps! These will be inspired by Indiana Jones, Tomb Raider, Zorro, among others. Many will be based on historical mysteries (ex: missing confederate gold, Bermuda triangle, Atlantis, etc.) or involve mythological artifacts. Some of the cards will include a short note on how to make the adventure more fantasy themed. Everyone who supports the Kickstarter for 3 or more decks will get this specific extra deck free.

In case you’re not familiar with these card decks, each card of each deck has a map on one side and a mini-adventure outline on the other side. The outline starts with a short description for the GM. (Skim these to find an adventure that fits the circumstances.) Choose between a couple of story hooks to get the adventure started (although for this TPK deck, the hooks are dropped because they all start with the TPK). Next several encounter ideas move the adventure along. Finally each card wraps up with one or two follow-up adventure ideas.

The three new decks are:

  • After the Total Party Kill: Your campaign… didn’t end well. What do you do? Try these adventure ideas for something different than just rolling new characters.
  • Modern Crime, Spies, & Supers: Modern adventures with criminal underworld, spies, and super-hero plots.
  • Lovecraftian/Paranormal: Adventure ideas with paranormal and Lovecraft themes.

In the past we’ve done these decks for various fantasy settings as well as science fiction, science fantasy, and high seas/pirates.
