Upcoming Fantasy RPG Symbols Font Update
Posted on Reddit yesterday, it got some praise, and we’ve made further updates…

When ready, this font will let you easily include a number of icons for various RPG terms in anything you make (adventures, game books, etc.). Most of the icons are from game-icons.net, where they have a cc attribution license, and this font would likely be similar. (A handful of icons are new by recombining or making small adjustments to icons from there.)
Please post constructive feedback/help… specifically for:
- Has someone else done this well and we shouldn’t bother going further?
- What RPG terms haven’t we done yet that we should? These have a D&D/5e slant because that’s what most people are playing and much of it carries over to other games, but if there are some other common terms not in the list (in D&D or not) we’d consider adding them.
- These focus on the characters that are common keyboard keys… should we use other characters if needed (copyright symbol, 1/4 symbol, etc.) or just do a second font if there are enough secondary RPG terms/items?
- Which of the symbols are hard to discern/could be better? Do you have suggestions for them and the few we haven’t assigned? (Especially if they are on game-icons.net or at least cc-attribution).
There are a few specific questions/ideas I’m pondering:
- Need a better Chaos Symbol
- Maybe use a Caduceus symbol for Constitution instead of a Heart.
- Standardize the race symbols… perhaps Elf, Half-Elf, Halfling, and Human could be more like heads, or make them all more like the Elf & Half-elf with distinctive body features…?
- Maybe use the current Speed icon for Dexterity and use the classic winged boot for Speed/Movement.
- Use an owl for Wisdom?
- Skew closer to the official icons for classes. (Ex: add crossed scimitars to ranger.)
- Can anything be done to better differentiate between Incapacitated, Stunned, and Unconscious?
- Perhaps a wrestling icon for grappled.
