Random Superhero Generator Updated

I took some time to update my free, web-based,  Icons-based random superhero generator.  The major change was to add a step dedicated to making adjustments (adding a power, adding points to an ability, etc.) to the character based on the character’s origin.

These adjustments are spelled out in the rules, but previously the generator didn’t explicitly do them for you nor did it tell you that you needed to tweak these manually.  (The tool did and still does let you override every randomly determined result in case you want to pick something that is a better fit.)

I’ve also added a number of possible backgrounds.  Basically, in addition to having a couple hundred possible random names based on different powers (which are further randomized by adding “Dr.” or “Mrs.” or “-man”) the tool also randomly assigns one of 18 mad libs style backgrounds.  (Not all 18 are done, but over half are.)  These backgrounds are further customized by changing slightly depending on if the character is a hero, villain or other.

As one final touch: I loved the Marvel Masterpieces hero cards from 1992 or so.  I remember the back of the card mentioned a “1st issue” so I added that (and a random result, which can be overridden) to the final page/character sheet of the generator.

And don’t forget my superhero sketch generator, even though it only does male figures at the moment.
