Writober! Toadstool! Shadowdark Post-a-Day In October

This month is Drawtober: 31 drawing prompts related to the Shadowdark RPG, 1 a day, each day throughout the month. But I’m borrowing the daily drawing prompts for a series of (usually short) writing prompts. Today’s prompt is “Toadstool”.

For today’s prompt we’re making a Toadstool ancestry, based on the Mushroomfolk creature:

Toadstool

Reclusive but cheery mushroom creatures about the size of a halfling. They usually live in forests in hollowed out giant tree-stumps and caves.

You know the Common language.

Detect Thoughts. Once per day per level, you can learn the immediate thoughts of one creature you can see within near. Each round as you attempt to detect thoughts, the target makes a Wisdom check vs. 10+ your level. If the target succeeds, it notices your presence in its mind and the effect ends. Your cap glows faintly when using this ability.
