Writober! Evil Eye! Shadowdark Post-a-Day In October

This month is Drawtober: 31 drawing prompts related to the Shadowdark RPG, 1 a day, throughout October. But I’m borrowing the prompts for short essays. Today’s prompt is “Evil Eye”.

The evil eye can have several meanings as curses, enchantments, magic items, or monsters:

  • A curse that some hags, witches, and shaman can place on a creature (with a DC based on the caster’s level). It causes the victim to have to make a new check each day to avoid changing their alignment to Chaotic.  (Heal will cure the alignment change, if the curse isn’t removed first.)
  • Another curse that causes a -2 penalty on spell checks made by the victim. Each day they can make the check against the curse again.
  • A magical third eye added to an evil creature that gives them the ability to detect magic, thoughts, etc.
  • A magical necklace with an eye attached that allows a wizard to see through the necklace.
  • A spell that causes the victim to have disadvantage on attacks or checks for a period of time.
  • A descendant of the Ten-Eyed Oracle: a floating eye-creature with just one or two of its powers.
  • A familiar for evil wizards: a bat like creature with bat-wings attached to a giant eyeball. The wizard can see what it does.

Evil Eyes

  1. An eye that magically melds with a creature’s forehead granting them Zone of Truth once per day.
